The Fire Spirit -Real Indian Ghost story

The Fire Spirit -Real Indian Ghost story

I belong to Kerala which is in the southern part of India. My town is known as Palakkad, situated in a valley surrounded by western ghat hills. These hills are subtropical rain forests having an average altitude of 1200 meters. We have monsoons for 5 months in a year. And when i say monsoon its heavy rainfall for 2 to 3 months. Because of this the small streams in the hills are full of water throughout the year, even during summer (though shallow ). Summer season is rather very humid as my place is situated in a valley, the heat accumulates in the plains and because of the surrounding mountains it cannot escape. This makes the humidity level to shoot up in the months of March and April. A group of hills is situated near to my school known as Dhoni hills. Folks who live near to the forests of this hill make a living out by cultivating rice. They can be said as tribal as they don’t mingle with the people living in town as they are happy amongst themselves and have their own culture and tradition. Most of them live near the little streams which is their main water source. Though these people follow the Hindu religion their deities include their forefather’s spirits, goblins along with other Hindu gods.

My school was just 4 miles away from these hills. I and my friends used go to the stream and have a great time during summer season. Four of us who used to go there together. Sometimes we used camp for the weekend near to this particular stream. During summer the stream was shallow and we could wade across easily. One weekend I, Roshan, Pranav and Vivin planned for camping trip to the mentioned place. We all were pretty excited. In order to reach the mentioned place we had to trek 4 miles. And our path consisted of 1 mile of pappy cultivation and then 3 miles of forest area. Since this area was under Indian forest reserves we had to get permission from the forest department prior to our camping journey. I am a scout so it was easy for us to get the permission docs cleared. We had to give our address and emergency contact numbers to the officials as per the clearance procedure. This forest didn’t have any wild beasts rather it included gentle animals mostly deer’s, rabbits etc. But the vegetation is thick and dense in some part of the forest.

So on the day of our journey we loaded our camping equipments and food stuff in our bikes and started from Pranavs home. Pranavs mother had made us food which would last two days of our camp trip. There was just one shopping store near to this forest which was located just before the paddy fields. Since we were in good terms with the shop keeper we parked our bikes there and started on foot. Even though we were burdened by the weight of camp equipment and other stuff but our excitement to reach the stream made us forget rest of the troubles. It was a pleasant day and in couple of hours we reached our destination. The best part was Vivin had sneaked in some beers in his backpack. The time was around 10 am and we started setting up our camp. Vivin and Pranav went to collect fire wood so that we could set a camp fire by the evening. I and Roshan got busy fixing the tent. Things were set in an hour’s time. Then we had some grub and started to explore the surroundings. We went to the nearby forest just to try our luck to catch a game. But unfortunately none of us are good hunters so we settled for a troll in the woods. On the way we saw a few huts of the folks who stay there. We didn’t cross their area as we are aware that they never entertain kids like us as they thought that we are troublesome. Near to these huts there were a few idols placed at the bottom of trees which these people used to worship.

By the time we reached back it was almost 1 pm and we were a bit tired and wanted to cool off in the cold water of the mountain stream. We had the beers and were in awesome mood and we all had a great time swimming and fooling around in the water. It would have been an hour or so suddenly Pranav shouted aloud which alarmed the rest of us. We were shocked to find blood in the water were Pranav was standing. We caught him bought him to the bank and when we checked he had cut his leg as he had hit an underwater rock even though the cut was small the blood was coming out in high pressure. We had stocked some bandages and med (we were well prepared as anything could happen in places like this) in our kit. I cleaned the wound and applied a covering over it. Then asking Pranav to rest we sat near to him and started chatting and playing cards. Time was around 5 pm, Pranav said he is feeling a bit pain in his leg. So I checked in the kit to see if there were any pain killers available. But there were none available so we decided that two of us would go to the store and get some painkillers. Vivin and Roshan started off immediately for the store before it closes down for the day. The rest of the story is as per what Roshan told me. On the way Vivin wanted to take a leak so he relieved himself near to a treaa. But unfortunately he had not seen the other side of the tree was an idol of worship was placed by the local folks. He was very sorry after realizing what he had done. And when Roshan assured him saying since it was not intentional it’s ok. And they shrugged their remorse and walked off.

By the time they reached the store it was almost 6 pm and luckily the store was still open and they purchased the meds. Then Vivin insisted Roshan to buy some beers, even though he was reluctant at first but later he agreed. So they bought some beers which the store keeper used to sell illegally. They had couple of beers and since it was getting late they started their journey back to the camp. On their way back they decided to take another route as it was a short cut even though it was a not used much by other folks. It would have been around 7 pm by then and was dark as it becomes dark sooner in forests. They had flash lights with them so they just started walking. After a mile or so they reached a clearing in middle of the jungle far away a mile or so, both of them saw a fire burning in a higher altitude. Thinking that would be the hill where our camp is, these guys started heading towards the fire. They walked for almost a mile further towards the fire, but it was as if the fire is as far as it was when they had first seen it. Since they were a little high they didn’t notice that they were walking away from the path. And they continued to follow the fire. After walking another mile they noticed the folly they did. That they had ventured away from the track and now they have lost their way. But they didn’t loose heart as they could still see the fire and kept on walking towards it. Again they walked more than a mile and still the fire was burning as far as they had seen in the beginning. By then both of them started getting little scared. Roshan is the toughest among the four of us, he said not to worry and kept on walking towards the fire but now they were totally lost in the unknown area of the woods. After a while they started hearing some creepy noises. Usually in forest you hear all kind of voices, of crickets and other animals and birds. But as per Vivins details these voices were not made by animals or insects but were some really horrifying and strange noises.

It was almost 9 pm and still they had not reached anywhere. So they decided to leave trailing behind the fire instead use the tracks back to the camp. They walked away avoiding the fire, even though it lured them to follow it. After walking here and there for a while In-between they even dropped the plan to search for the path and follow back the fire, but then Roshan said to Vivin it is useless and let’s find the path. Luckily after a while they saw a group of huts. They had reached the backyard of a small group of folks living there. They went and knocked at the door. An old man opened and gave them an unwelcome look. But later when they explained what had happened he quickly let them in and made them comfortable. They were surprised to the core when the old man offered them coffee. And asked them what exactly happened. They narrated what had happened, about Pranavs accident till the fire that had made them lose their track back to their camp. After listening intensely the old man his name was Choran asked whether they fooled around anywhere. Suddenly Vivin remembered about the folly that he had done earlier that evening. Then the old man said the idol where he had passed urine was of a fire spirit ( it’s like goblin, in my language its known as thikolli pisachu ). Some people who practice black magic use this spirit to get all sorts of wicked things done. Mostly the rituals are performed in front of these idols and Vivin had made the ritual premise dirty which had angered the spirit. Usually when a fire spirit wrecks vengeance it makes its victims follow a fire and make them loose their track. As and when the victims feel that the fire is near by the spirit will increase the distance and in the end people would go crazy and start running towards the fire source. Then the spirit would take them to the top of a hill and make them jump to death.

After hearing this both of them were scared like hell. Then Choran said as there are two of you that was the reason you were alive. If you were alone then you would have gone crazy and would have succumbed to the lure of light in the dark forest which ould have resulted in your death. Charon then gave them Bhasmam ( it’s a holy powder that is applied on forehead by Hindus ) that he had kept in his worship area and told them to apply it on their forehead. This powder is considered to have Lord Shiva’s blessing, and Lord Shiva according to Hindu religion is also known as the lord of spirits and goblins also. Therefore no spirit can touch you if you are reciting his prayer. Listening to this they were relieved. Then choran lit a fire torch and lead them towards the path so that they can reach the camp. Once they reached the path Choran asked them not to follow anything else other than the path. As the fire spirit might try to lure them towards their death. They nodded in unison and thanked the generous old man and started walking. On their way many times they saw fire burning here and there but they stuck to the track and walked forward without any diversions. They said they even heard the spirit calling to them in a female voice. This made them more scared but they recited Lord Shivas name and walked ahead. After walking for more than an hour they could hear the voice of stream flowing and could see our campfire upon the hill. They thanked heavens and rushed towards us.

Meanwhile I and Pranav were scared thinking about Vivin and roshan, But when I saw two flashlights far ahead below the hill I knew it was them. By the time they reached it was almost past 12 pm. When they narrated what had happened, we didn’t believe at first but when we saw their seriousness we understood it was something paranormal. Pranav got his meds and slept well. Nothing happened that night. I and Pranav didn’t feel anything spooky or unearthly but Vivin and Roshan had become believers on that day. Next day we started early as Pranav couldn’t walk as fast as others. After that we had couple more of camping trips to the same place without any trouble.

The ghost in the playground - Real Indian Ghost story

The ghost in the playground - Real Indian Ghost story

This narration is about an experience i had during my schooldays. I studied in kendriya vidyalaya which has got awesome allround academic activities. Apart from studies my school also used to give importance to sports and various other activities like scouting, nature club, readers club etc. When i was in 5th grade i joined the scouts club as i was interested in outdoor activites. And being a scout promised a lot of adventurous night outs along with my friends, offcourse it used to be under the guidance of our scout master ( usually a teacher from our school ).

There were exams to advance to next levels in scouting. It started with, being a cub when you join and then later once you are in 6th grade you become a scout. The tough levels used to start from 8th grade where in you had clear a level called tritiya sopan, then in 9th grade it was rajya puraskar ( rajya means state and puraskar means award ) and the ultimate award for scout in india is rashtrapathi puraskar. When i was in my 10th grade i had completed all the levels and was ready for rashtrapathi puraskar. That was a tough 3 weeks camp where in we had clear levels individually and also as group. We had tests on knots, lashings, constellations, compass reading, hiking and trekking, first aid, cooking, other physical exercises and written tests on a various subjects. In short it was a tough nut to crack. But i am proud to say that the group of scouts from my school cleared these tests and we all became rashtrapathi scouts. And got awarded the badge and appreciation letter from the President of India. There were 14 of us out of which 9 were boys sand the rest girls. We went to a place called trivandrum to attend this camp.

As i said it was a tough camp as the director of the camp was a very hard taskmaster. So we had to be very disciplined and orderly during the camp hours which was from 7 am to 5 am. After which we could do our personal chores but didnt have permission to leave the camp. As i said the camp was held at a school in trivandrum which was based in an indian army base. There was a huge playground  were soldiers used to do parade and stuff, this place was given to us for tests and other activities. We were to occupy class rooms in the school as it was summer holidays for other children. I was glad that my best friend Arun was also with during that camp. We used to have a great time pulling pranks and doing all sort of crazy stuffs together. By the 3rd day of our stay we got accustomed to the nook and corner of the campus. That night myself and Arun thought of pulling a prank on Sarun who was a good kid but a loser according to us ( which i now know was wrong, my apologies ). But we were wary of another kid Bhaskar who was our group leader. So at night when all of them slept we played our prank to perfection and to laugh out loud without disturbing the victim we snooped out of our room. We had a good laugh and then Arun said, bro lets go out for a walk. For the info of my readers the time was 1 am. I was scared to go out as there was no proper lighting outside. But then i thought what the hell, lets go.

We both went out in to darkness and headed straight towards the playground. There were stands for people to sit at one end of this playground. So both of us went towards it and sat down and were talking about the tests  and the prank that we had played on poor Sarun. There were huge neon lamp posts near to the place where we were sitting and i could see a fair amount of area just it would have been during the day time. But there were no lights projected towards the playground, since that night being full moon and the sky starlit we could see kind of okay. We would have been there for about 15 min or so and both of us were enjoying the night, I suddenly saw a person in white dress or to be precise a white human shape in the ground about 400 meters away. I got scared but then i started wondering who would be standing alone and then i realized that i was looking towards that place where the form is for about 2 minutes and it appeared in a blink of an eye and i am sure if some one would have walked from either of the sides of the ground i would have noticed. This thought brought shivers to my body. I said to Arun in a hushed voice and showed him the person. He was also shocked as he to felt the same as i had. Then to our further surprise the form moved about 20 meters to the left  all of a sudden and then again moved back to the place where  it was before. It was like one second its in this place and then in a second it changed its place and then back to where it was. I didnt have have to say anything to Arun, he understood the scenario well and we both got up and ran back to our rooms. I didnt even turn back to see whether the thing was following us or not. We both were scared to our wits and slept off our terror.
Next day we both didnt talk about the incident at all. As we both knew that what we had seen the other was not anything close to human. We had our daily tests during the camp hours and then once the day was called off by our camp director we both went back to our room. Then we spoke about the incident that happened the other night. I said we need to inquire about this to a local guy. There was this school gardener whom we had befriended the other day and he was a local person. We went to him and i said about what had happened. He said what we saw could have been a ghost as that place is haunted. India was under British rule till 1947 and that place was used to torture and hang people to death who had committed crime. Then later when India got independence, the Indian army took over the place. He also said that there were many sightings before and people have  been harmed or some times even been possessed by the spirits and we were lucky that we were not harmed. We both couldnt say anything and we just stared at each other. For the rest of the days in the camp we didnt fool around rather we concentrated on our tests.  Its been more than 13 years but even now when i remember this incident a shiver runs through my body.

Brahma Rakshas - Real Indian Ghost story

Brahma Rakshas, The brahmins ghost - Real Indian Ghost story

This story is about a haunting that happened in my neighborhood 70 years ago to a family who stay near to my house and are also my relatives. I heard this incident from my grandfather who was not directly linked to any of it but heard it from people who were associated with it.

I had already mentioned in my previous post that people from my caste stay near to temples as livelihood is earned by doing work in temples. There was a priest who used to perform poojas (prayer) at the nearby temple who was a part of the above mentioned family. In Hindu religion only Brahmans can become priests and only they have the right to enter the srikovil (it is the main dome inside a temple where the god/goddess idol is situated) and perform poojas. Brahmans need to have good knowledge in Vedas, Upanishads and other pooja mantras (ancient Hindu literature and prayer rituals) as they perform prayer for the well being of the whole universe. Apart from that they follow a very strict and disciplined life by avoiding intoxicants and other unsocial activities. They are vegetarians and during those days it was a rule that people from other casts maintain a distance while the priests are in temple premises so that the priest's holiness is not lost. If lost the poojas offered
to the god/goddess would have no or less effect. So in short the Brahmans are considered as scholars and holy people.

The mentioned priest was an old man of 70 something. He was a scholar and also had done college which was kind of super cool during those days. He had lived happily with his family making a living by performing pooja at the nearby temple of goddess Karthika devi. But one day his family noticed some that the priest was having some kind blisters all over his body and also fever. So they rushed him to the village doctor who said he is suffering from a deadly disease known as Smallpox.

Smallpox was an incurable disease during those days. Only 1 out of 10 used to survive this disease. Now it's eradicated by giving proper vaccinations to infants. Thank god. There has not been a case of smallpox diagnosed in the past 50 years or so in India. Whoever survived would have lifelong scars on their body and some would go blind. In the starting stages there would be high fever and blisters (kind of real huge pimples) all over the body, even in eyes and tongue. These blisters would later burst and the patient would bleed to death. Believe me its real bad, and the worst thing is that this disease can spread easily so during old days a person who had this disease would be kept isolated. They would be placed in a separate house and servants would provide them with food and water. Apart that practically there was no care or treatment given to the patients.

Sadly the same thing happened to the priest. He was kept isolated in a hut near to his house and was looked after by servants. His children never went near him. He had very bad blisters in his eyes which made him blind. There were blisters in his tongue and throat so he was not able to eat or drink easily. He suffered in that condition for more than 2 weeks and then he died. The servants found that he is dead after 2 days as no one had gone near him for many days. Since his body had decayed he did not get a proper funeral that a Brahman should get. His body was wrapped in clothes and later burnt. Nothing happened for a week's time but later there were some abnormal happenings.

The family had cattle which were healthy, started acting mad. They would start making noises during odd hours. And they started dying one after another without any reasonable disease. Apart from that the family members could hear growling noises all around their house at night. The eldest son had taken up the responsibility of performing poojas at the temple after the priest's death. He used to go to the pond before sunrise to take bath but he would see water marks on stones near the pond. As if someone had taken bath, which was a surprise as the pond was a private property and he was the first to wake in family after his father's death. Then slowly cattle of nearby houses started dying which really stirred up a talk that the priest s soul is not at rest and is very unhappy with the kind of funeral he got. This was confirmed by an incident when one of the family members found marks in the shape of human feet (larger than normal human feet) near to the house. The scary thing w
as that the leaves lying near to these marks were half burnt.

The whole neighborhood was scared and they called an astrologer to find out the reason behind all these things. Astrologer noticed the marks and later he did some prayers and meditation and understood that this was done by the priest's soul which was not at rest. He said that the priest had become a Brahmarakshas. Usually when a Brahman dies an unnatural death, his soul becomes a Brahmarakshas. These entities are very powerful as they were priests when they were alive. They have a specific pattern of travel or path. It is said that if someone comes in the path of a Brahmarakshas and looks upon him in his eyes he would burn to death. Also they attack and kill cattle's. That explains the death of cattle and the footprint near to their house. The astrologer said that it's not easy to pacify a brahmarakshas but he would try his level best.

Later he performed some poojas and gave a proper funeral to the deceased. They made a Samadhi, a Hindu tomb stone placed after performing proper funeral for the priest and the astrologer asked the family to light a lamp in the Samadhi in the evening before sunset on a daily basis. After that there were no troubles but the astrologer said even though the soul is at peace and would never harm anyone or cause any trouble to cattle unless someone crosses its path. It's said that still now the brahmarakshas walks in a particular area near to its Samadhi. So after a particular time at night no one goes near to that place. Even after so many years his great grand children light a lamp on the priests Samadhi.

Hope you guys liked my story, comments would be awesome. Cheers and take care.

JALA PISHACH - WATER SPIRIT

The Water Spirit or Jala Pishach

Today I am going to narrate about an incident which happened to my grandfather when he was 16. Most of the people in our caste make a living by jobs related to temple activities.  So my grandfather also used to work in the temple.  During festival season he used to go to temples in distant places to earn some extra money.

Once he went for such a festival, came back after a week and started his normal chores. It is mandatory to be clean before entering the temple premises. So my grandfather used to take bath in a pond near to the temple before sunrise. My great grandfather, my grandfathers father also used to work in the same temple so they used to go to the pond together. My granddad being young used to dive into water and have a great time. His father used to finish his bath and go to temple early and let his son play in the water for a while. But that day he got worried as my granddad did not come to temple even after 2 hours.

Tensed my great grandfather asked one of his friends to go and fetch my granddad, when the friend went near to the pond he saw my grandfather floating in the water but his eyes were open and was enjoying what he was doing. The friend tried his level best to convince my grandfather to get out of the water but he would deny all the time. In the end the friend got frustrated and called couple more of guys and plunged into the water. But to their surprise my grandfather dived in and did not come out for almost 5 min. everybody thought he had drowned but after a while he came out of water.  Then they struggled very hard to pull him out. Once out of water my grandfather started talking in a different voice and started abusing everybody.  Later his father came, pacified him and took him home.

Once at home he kept on insisting that he is not clean and wants to go to the pond and take a bath. But his father convonced him and made him sleep. Even though he was worried by the sudden change in his boy’s attitude but ignored it at that point of time. My granddad slept the whole day and woke up in the evening when his father came home from work. At that time he looked normal and had supper with the rest of the family. Everybody slept after supper but my great grandfather, and when he was about to sleep he heard a noise from the nearby room. What he saw baffled him, my grandfather had got out from his bed and was walking towards the front door as if in trance. His eyes were closed and he walked straight towards the well near to our house. And climbed on to the fence and was about to jump, seeing this father came running and caught him at the last minute, took him back to home.

These things continued for a week’s time the whole family was worried as my grandfathers health was also deteriorating. After learning about these happenings,  priest of the temple called upon an astrologer to find out what was wrong with my grandfather. The person came and saw my grandfather and in an instant understood that he was possessed by a Jala pishach or water spirit.  Jala pishach are spirits of people who die accidentally in water.  That’s why people who are possessed by water spirit have high tendency to be near water all the time and that’s what had happened to my grandfather. Then he did some calculations and said that he was possessed by the spirit when he went for that festival. Later my grandfather also confirmed that he had felt some one tried to drown him when he took bath in the pond where he had gone but had luckily escaped.

The Astrologer gave him a very powerful prayer ( a shloka ) of god Vishnu known as “”sudarshana mantram ““ and asked him to recite twice every day for 30 days. Which he did promptly and was freed from the evil effects of the entity. He lived a very happy life after that and had 5 kids, one of them my mother.  After narrating this story to me he wrote down the powerful hymn and gave it to me, saying I should have it as I am the eldest of his grand children. Thank you for taking time and reading my story and I hope you liked it. I would love to hear your comments and feedback. Cheers.

REAL GHOST HAUNTING

REAL GHOST HAUNTING THAT HAPPENED TO MY MATERNAL UNCLE

Hi to all readers, it’s been a pleasure reading your stories… So I felt I should share some thing which I know and have heard from my granny.  I am from kerala, a state in the southern part of India.  We belong to the Brahmin caste and are vegetarians.  Hindus usually have a family god and even we have a family god who is been idolized in our house. There is a separate worship room for the Goddess were no one enters frequently, as to maintain its sanctity. I forgot to tell that my house is around 200 years old and it has seen generations. My granny used to say that her granny also could not say when the house was built.

This incident happened to my granny’s younger brothers ( lets call them aby and liby ), one is no longer with us and the other one when asked about this always denies, but we children could always understand that he is hiding some thing. These guys were around 16 or 17 at that time, back in 1960’s. During those days our place used to be a jungle and transportation was limited to couple of buses to the town in a day and most of the traveling was done by walking the distance. These 2 were great movie buffs and used to watch which ever movie that used to release in the near by town which was 15 kms away.  So one fine Friday a new movie released and these two went to watch, the show was at 9 in the night. It got over by 11.30 or so and they started back.

It was raining heavily, but these guys since being young did not care and continued their trial back home. During those days possessions used to happen to people very frequently. The path was flooded with water due to heavy rains and while jumping a pit hole one of the guys ( aby ) fell inside it, this pit hole was 7 feet deep and he started drowning. After some times struggle the other guy with the help of some locals were able to pull him up. Guys .. now the story begins. I know I have dragged it a bit, my apologies as this is my first post J ….

The locals said to the guy who had been rescued from the pit, that yesterday a 16 year old muslim girl had drowned and died in the same pit hole. After hearing this aby was shocked as he was just 16 but liby consoled and said not to worry and lets go home.  They started back to home and reached home by 1 am or so. After half an hour aby ( who fell ) started shivering and was having high fever. Their mother got worried as there were no hospitals near by at that time and it was raining heavily too. They gave him some home made medicines, but after some time he became unconscious and started mouthing out words like “ get out “,  “ pls leave me “ and
“ mum I am scared she is gonna kill me “ etc.. he struggled for almost an hour till 3 am he was mouthing these things and was unconscious. After 3 am all of a sudden he woke up and was fit like a horse. Every one was startled at this sudden change. His mother asked what had happened, then he said about the struggle that he had with the evil spirit. He said that the girl was trying to enter our house through the gate but was not able to as our family Goddess was stopping her from doing that. But the spirit was hypnotizing him ( as he had contact with the spirit when he fell in the pit. It had the power to control him ) to come out of the gate as her powers were weak inside our compound because of our Goddess. Then he said that our goddess assured him that nothing will happen and stood in between them and battled the spirit. At last the evil entity lost its fighting powers completely as it was nearing dawn and left the place. He said once it was over the goddess came and said to him not to worry as she is always there to protect him…. After saying this he fell unconscious again and woke up only the next day. All was well again. He never had a problem like this in his life ever….. we still have devotional days conducted for our goddess yearly…. I feel the goddess presence in my home and feel safe…. Hope u guys liked it…. Thanks for reading…
